This is a response to Geert Wilder and his movie called “Fitna”

In That movie Mr.Geert Wilder desperately tried with the help of the Images, which has a lot of Power and persuades the viewer, to convince the people of Netherlands and not only them, that the Koran is a hateful book, preaching violence, killing, and in general calls the believer to commit many atrocities.

As a viewer I have to admit that this movie was very well presented and accompanied with a dramatic music, making the process of brainwashing much easier to the ignorant person.

An unbiased person would easily identify the propaganda of this movie in which like I said tries to portray the Koran (and eventually Islam and the Muslims) as a book filled with hate towards civilians and non Muslims.

So this movie is well presented from the point of view of effects, music, and images of supposed Muslims killing the innocent people.

The negative parts of the movie are that probably contains the worst arguments against Islam. These Arguments have been refuted and answered many times earlier by Muslim apologists.

Let us check the material of the movie which is the following:

1)     Chapters from The Quran

2)     Statements from Imams

3)     Images of Muslims killing Christians and Jews

4)     Images of Muslims committing crimes

All the chapters of The Quran that Mr. Wilder posted are taken out of context. And along with images like airplanes crashing to the twin towers etc tries to justify violence within the Quranic verses. A really chip trick. Let us read the context of these verses:

First Mr. Wilder post Chapter 8 verse 60

And make ready against them all you can of power, including steeds of war (tanks, planes, missiles, artillery, etc.) to threaten the enemy of Allâh and your enemy, and others besides whom, you may not know but whom Allâh does know. And whatever you shall spend in the Cause of Allâh shall be repaid unto you, and you shall not be treated unjustly. (8:60)

The Chapter was revealed in 2 A.H after the battle of Badr in which the Muslims were in defense against their enemies (Quraish)

The context of this verse begins from verse 55 till 66 which the theme was sanctity of treaties that has been enjoined and the Muslims commanded to observe them as long as the other party does not break them. The Muslims should always be prepared for war on every front, but should be ready to make peace if the other party is inclined towards it.

Let us read the context:

55. Verily, The worst of moving (living) creatures before Allâh are those who disbelieve, – so they shall not believe.

56. They are those with whom you made a covenant, but they break their covenant every time and they do not fear Allâh

57. So if you gain the mastery over them in war, punish them severely in order to disperse those who are behind them, so that they may learn a lesson.

58. If you (O Muhammad SAW) fear treachery from any people throw back (their covenant) to them (so as to be) on equal terms (that there will be no more covenant between you and them). Certainly Allâh likes not the treacherous.

59. And let not those who disbelieve think that they can outstrip (escape from the punishment). Verily, they will never be able to save themselves (from Allâh’s Punishment).

60. And make ready against them all you can of power, including steeds of war (tanks, planes, missiles, artillery, etc.) to threaten the enemy of Allâh and your enemy, and others besides whom, you may not know but whom Allâh does know. And whatever you shall spend in the Cause of Allâh shall be repaid unto you, and you shall not be treated unjustly

61. But if they incline to peace, you also incline to it, and (put your) trust in Allâh. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. (Quran 8:55-61)

So as you see from the verses, it is crystal clear that the context speaks about honoring the treaties between Muslims and non Muslims and if the non Muslims break their treaties then the Muslims have the right to fight them. But if the enemies incline to peace then also the Muslims have to incline. Mr. Wilder never posted the context above because simply expose his deceit method.

Let us see now the second verse

56. Surely! Those who disbelieved in Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) We shall burn them in Fire. As often as their skins are roasted through, We shall change them for other skins that they may taste the punishment. Truly, Allâh is Ever Most Powerful, AllWise. (Quran 4:56)

Mr. Wilder wrongly believes that this ayah is for Jihad. The Ayah is about the punishment of God to the unbelievers in the Day of Judgment. As you see once again Mr. Wilder exposes his ignorance for the Noble Quran. Check what the following verse says:

But those who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh – Islâmic Monotheism) and do deeds of righteousness, We shall admit them to Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), abiding therein forever. Therein they shall have Azwâjun Mutahharatun [purified mates or wives (having no menses, stools, urine, etc.)] and We shall admit them to shades wide and ever deepening (Paradise). (Quran 4:57)

So is very clear that the context speaks about the hereafter, punishments for the bad and rewards for the good.

The third verse is the following:

4. So, when you meet (in fight Jihâd in Allâh’s Cause), those who disbelieve smite at their necks till when you have killed and wounded many of them, then bind a bond firmly (on them, i.e. take them as captives). Thereafter (is the time) either for generosity (i.e. free them without ransom), or ransom (according to what benefits Islâm), until the war lays down its burden. Thus [you are ordered by Allâh to continue in carrying out Jihâd against the disbelievers till they embrace Islâm (i.e. are saved from the punishment in the Hell-fire) or at least come under your protection], but if it had been Allâh’s Will, He Himself could certainly have punished them (without you). But (He lets you fight), in order to test you, some with others. But those who are killed in the Way of Allâh, He will never let their deeds be lost,( Quran 47:4)

In order to criticize this verse we have to know the period of revelation of the specific soura that contains the above verse as well as the historical background.

The contents of this Surah testify that it was sent down after the hijrah at Madinah at the time when the fighting had been enjoined, though active fighting had not yet been undertaken. Detailed arguments in support of this view have been given in E. N. 8 below. The conditions at the time when this Surah was sent down were such that the Muslims were being made the target of persecution and tyranny in Makkah in particular and in Arabia in general, and life had become miserable for them.( by Dr. Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al-Hilali, Ph.D. and Dr. Muhammad Muhsin Khan., translation of meaning of Holy Quran in English)

So again we clearly understand that the verse (47:4) is about the fighting of Muslims and pagans during the time of the Prophet. The pagans oppressed and persuaded the Muslims. There was no other option for the Muslims but to fight.

Moreover, Mr. Wilder didn’t post the whole verse, but he chooses to quote a part of it, simply because he wants to hide the context.

He quoted then the verse:

89. They wish that you reject Faith, as they have rejected (Faith), and thus that you all become equal (like one another). So take not Auliyâ’ (protectors or friends) from them, till they emigrate in the Way of Allâh (to Muhammad SAW). But if they turn back (from Islâm), take (hold) of them and kill them wherever you find them, and take neither Auliyâ’ (protectors or friends) nor helpers from them(Quran 4:89)

By that verse (quoted out of context) Wilder tries to say that it is violent. But he doesn’t stop his bad habit  to quote out of context. If he just bothered to quote the next verse, (90) in which in purpose he didn’t, then it would be easily understood that the Muslims was engaged in fight only with those that oppressed them and persuaded them. Look the verse that comes after 89:

90. Except those who join a group, between you and whom there is a treaty (of peace), or those who approach you with their breasts restraining from fighting you as well as fighting their own people. Had Allâh willed, indeed He would have given them power over you, and they would have fought you. So if they withdraw from you, and fight not against you, and offer you peace, then Allâh has opened no way for you against them.(Quran 4:90)

The above verse shows that Muslims were in defense and even tolerant with their persecutors.

39. And fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief and polytheism: i.e. worshipping others besides Allâh) and the religion (worship) will all be for Allâh Alone [in the whole of the world]. But if they cease (worshipping others besides Allâh), then certainly, Allâh is All-Seer of what they do.(8:39)

Another “violent” verse presented by Mr. Wilder. Again he failed to realize that the soura revealed after the battle of Badr in which the Pagans declared war to the Muslims, therefore was not an option not to fight. Also the famous commentator of the noble Quran Ibn Kathir state about the specific verse:

Muhammad bin Ishaq said that he was informed from Az-Zuhri, from `Urwah bin Az-Zubayr and other scholars that

(until there is no more Fitnah) the Fitnah mentioned here means, until no Muslim is persecuted so that he abandons his religion.” ( Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Commentary of Soura 8 Verse 39)

The rest of Wilders video contains no arguments against Islam. Mr. Wilder and his fellow anti Islamic must try harder to construct an argument against Islam. Even though, here I am to refute it Insa Allah.
